  Adam was playing football as the school had closed and Freya was at home with me preparing for supper where I had started to make a potato pie and Freya was telling me about her friend Imelda Jackson’s parents who were waiting for divorce. Now at that time, I was surprised to know that Freya knew anything about divorce and I questioned her about it only to discover that she knew more about it than I did and she started to explain.

  “Mamma, a divorce is when a mother and a father cannot live happily together and they decide to go their separate ways, that’s all.” she said quite complacently and asked me if Imelda could come to supper with us as her parents had already gone to live in different addresses and of course I said it would be alright and asked her to set the table for four thinking of the children and myself with the little friend of Freya and then I remembered that my mother and my sister would be coming to dinner also and changed the table setting for SIX,... but as we were talking we could hear someone ringing the door bell and as we were expecting Imelda, Freya ran to answer the door, hopping and singing as she went, but her screams made me shudder.

  Daddy... Daddy she called out.
